Steven Harold Colwell, 56, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be on Friday, October 19, 2018, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry. Interment will be in Oakhill Cemetery in Griffin. Georgia, immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to The Vine Church, 504 Marshallville Road, Perry, GA 31069 OR Heart of Georgia Hospice, 913 Woodridge Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31093.
Steve was born on February 24, 1962, in Griffin to the late Harold and Barbara Crumbley Colwell. He originally began working at The Blue Bird Body Company at the age of 20. He continued his career there as a Mechanical Engineer and retired after 36 years of service from The Blue Bird Corporation. Steve was a founding member of The Vine Church of Houston County where he served as an Elder. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan, enjoyed golf, and loved watching and taking care of his hummingbirds who would visit him daily. He was a handyman and was always eager to please as was evident by his prompt completion of the projects he undertook. Steve was a loving husband and father and was such an honorable strong Christian man. His family was his greatest passion in life, enjoying family trips to the beach and the mountains. It was during these times that he developed a close relationship with his nieces and nephews, often playing the role of a second father to them.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Steve are his loving and faithfully devoted wife of 34 years, Joy McLean Colwell of Perry; his daughter, Karlie Butler Colwell of Ft. Myers, Florida; his brothers, Greg Colwell (Dawn) and Jeff Colwell (Valerie); his sisters-in-law, Jane Shirley, Debbie Sapp (Russ), Deanna Mullis, and Debbie Sorrow; several nieces and nephews; his special four-legged, furry friend, Millie; and his granddog, Bentley.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
