SANDRA GILES SESSOMS's Obituary
PERRY –
Sandra Giles Sessoms passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2024. She was 86 years old. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Perry. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., and the funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Perry, 1105 Main Street, Perry, GA 31069.
Sandra was born in Perry on December 1, 1937, to the late Henry and Roselyn Taylor Giles. A lifelong resident of Houston County, she graduated from Perry High School in 1955 and subsequently attended business college while living temporarily in Atlanta. Sandra proudly accepted a position with Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base in the Air Force Reserve Personnel Office. After several years there, she transferred to the Strategic Air Command Logistics Office where she continued to work for many years until her retirement. Sandra was a long-time, active member of First Baptist Church of Perry where she was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. Cooking was something that Sandra did almost every day for as long as her health would allow, making meals and baking goodies for others. She enjoyed visiting with church friends, neighbors, and family, always sharing her kindness. Later in life, Sandra took great pleasure in being the Chairman of the Benevolence Committee at First Baptist Church of Perry, scheduling meals and cooking for families during their times of need. She enjoyed spending time with her Red Hats Society and was a member of the Perry Akikta Club with whom she delighted in working their community fundraiser at the Georgia National Fair for over twenty years. Sandra had such a “green thumb” that she was a natural at gardening. Her relaxation was often achieved by planting, pruning, admiring, and sharing a wide variety of flowers and plants adorning her yard at the home in which she had lived for over fifty years. Although she had a successful career outside the home, Sandra was always a homemaker at heart, creating a welcoming and loving environment full of Victorian splendor where all were made to feel special.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Benny Giles and Jerry Giles; her sisters, Jenny Giles Tripp and Rosemary Bell Hutson; her sister-in-law, Winifred “Winky” Harrell; and her loving and devoted husband of thirty-four years, Jim Sessoms.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Sandra are her children, David “Dave” King (Kathy) of Calhoun, and Kellye King of Baconton; her bonus children, Pam Hill (Ernest) of Sylvester, and Greg Sessoms (Sandy) of Arrington, AL; her grandchildren, Mallory King, Joshua Hill, Justin Hill, Haleigh Sessoms, and Hayden Sessoms; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Janice Bledsoe (Danny) of Hawkinsville; her brother-in-law, Edward Harrell of Gates, NC; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
