RILEY ALDENE "AL" LASSETER's Obituary
PERRY –
Riley “Al” Lasseter, a Perry native who owned Lasseter Furniture for around 23 years and won 10 club championships at Perry Country Club, died on July 7 at his home in Perry. He was 78.
Al passed away peacefully after living with Alzheimer’s disease for many years. His wife of 56 years, Andrea Lasseter, was at home with him.
Lasseter Furniture, formerly known as Massee Furniture, took the name after the location moved next to the Bank of Perry. Al’s two sons, Drew and David Lasseter, could often be seen around the store. Drew worked at the location during high school.
Al owned the store in partnership with his father for most of the 23 years before he worked as a furniture sales rep for 26 years. During his years of ownership, he also held multiple leadership positions in the Georgia Home Furnishing Association.
Al was born right outside of downtown at his childhood home on Ball St. His parents were Aldene and Christine Lasseter of Perry. He met Andrea in 1960 and graduated from Perry High School in 1961. The two raised their family in Perry.
Al was a member and president of the Perry Rotary Club. He was also one of the first members of the Perry Exchange Club and a lifelong member of Perry Presbyterian Church.
Perry Country Club was known as his “second home.” It was the course where he shot his low score of 7-under 64. Al also served multiple years on the board of directors at the club, and the family frequented the club for community events.
Golf was one of Al’s life passions, one he passed down to his sons and grandson. Al was inducted into the Houston County Golf Hall of Fame in 1994. He also served on the board of the Georgia State Golf Association for many years.
One of his most fond memories was his trip to Scotland, the home of golf, where he played Open Championship courses. He played the Old Course at St. Andrews for the first time on July 11, 1996, and said the experience was one of the best of his life.
Al was loved by three sisters: survived by Candi Lasseter-James (Mark), Leah Lasseter-Lockerman and predeceased by Jerry Lasseter Moody and her husband Tom Moody.
During the second half of his life, he enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren, Evan Lasseter, Emily Lasseter, Elizabeth Lasseter and Harper Lasseter. He was survived by his sons, David (Heather), and Drew (Chris Gibson), and brother-in-law Michael Snyder (Melissa). Al was also survived by two nephews: Tommy Moody (Lessa), Mark Moody, and grandnieces Erin Watts and Makenzie Moody, and grandnephew Logan Moody.
A memorial service for Al will be held on Monday, July 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m.
