Richard Campbell Talton , 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday at the Perry United Methodist Church with interment following at Evergreen Cemetery. Dr. Bradley Brady and Rev. Roland Fall will officiate. Visitation will be held in the church Fellowship Hall one hour prior to the service.
He is predeceased by his parents Abner Redding and Addie Estelle Andrew Talton; three brothers, Abner Redding Talton, Jr. (Margaret), Henry Andrew Talton (Lucy), and Benjamin Cullen Talton; and grandson, Richard Westscott Goodwin.
Mr. Talton was born on October 15, 1920, in Kathleen, Georgia, where he lived all of his life. He graduated from Perry High School and Abraham Agricultural College. He returned to Kathleen and began his life-long career in farming. Throughout his life, Mr. Talton served on many professional and service organizations, including the Board of Directors of Houston County Farm Bureau, the Board of Directors of Central Georgia Production Credit Association where he received Director of the Year, the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Dairy and Food Nutrition Council; Flint Electric Membership Cooperation Board of Directors for thirty years, where he received Distinguished Cooperator Award; and the Board of Directors for the Bank of Perry.
Mr. Talton was a faithful member of the Perry United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board, the Board of Trustees, and where he will be fondly remembered as a thirty-year 11:00 usher.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years Mary Elizabeth Perdue Talton; three children, Joye and Jim Goodwin, Jean and Jim Floyd, Richilynn and Ed Chapman; grandchildren, Angela Goodwin, Ashley and Art McSwain, Jamie and Nick Ayers, Emily Jane and John Dennis Wetherington, and Katie Chapman; seven great-grandchildren, Kathrine Elizabeth and Molly James McSwain, James Talton, Mary Floyd, and Charles West Ayers, John Henry and Elizabeth Jane Wetherington; sister-in-law Betty Talton, and many nieces and nephews.
His memory would be honored throu gh memorials made to the Perry United Methodist Church and The Westfield School. The family will be in residence at 109 Talton Road, Kathleen, Georgia. Condolences may be made at Watson Hunt.com.
