PERRY-George Ogden Persons, II, 82, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Perry United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at a Reception in the Fellowship Hall at the Church. A private interment will be held in Oaklawn Cemetery in Ft. Valley. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Perry United Methodist Church.Mr. Persons was born in Forsyth to the late Robert Ogden Persons, Sr. and the late Louise Kendrick Persons. He graduated from Darlington School in Rome, Georgia, in 1953. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Emory University. At the age of 29, Ogden began his lifelong community banking career in Lithonia, Georgia, and was known as the "Barefoot Banker." He enjoyed interacting with his employees and customers. He served on the Board of Trustees at Darlington School and was a lifetime contributor. Ogden enjoyed traveling, the Georgia coast, golfing with friends, and working on his farm in Perry. He was a member of Perry United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Ogden Persons, Jr.; and his first wife, the mother of his children, Marianne Gillis Persons. Left to cherish the memories of Ogden are his loving and devoted wife of 37 years, Sharon Persons of Perry; his children, Ogden Persons, III, (Maureen) of Macon, Jim Persons (Mary Jack) of Atlanta, and Katherine Persons Kelly (Bill) of Richmond, Virginia; and his grandchildren, Mary Persons, Gillis Persons, Parker Persons, Jackson Persons, and Harper Kelly; and 2 nephews.Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
