Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Happy Hour, 202 North Davis Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31093 or The HALO Group, 900 Ball Street, Perry, GA 31069.
Mike was born in Anniston, Alabama, to the late Harold and Jean Merritt Pike. His family
moved to Perry, Georgia, when he was in eighth grade. He always loved sports and
played baseball from his little league years through high school. After graduating from
Perry High School in 1981, Mike continued his education at Valdosta State College
where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training followed by a Master’s
Degree in Athletic Training from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania. He returned to
Houston County after college, was hired by Piedmont Orthopedics, and was placed at
Warner Robins High School to be their Athletic Trainer. When the Olympics were held in
Atlanta in 1996, Mike covered the Ju Jitsu competitions. He made good friends and
great memories during that time. In 2001, Mike accepted a position with Houston
Healthcare Complex in their community outreach program to be an Athletic Trainer
where he served Westfield Schools, and Perry High School for the past twenty-two
years. He was a long-time member of the National Athletic Trainers Association. He
loved his athletes and was so proud of their efforts and accomplishments. He spent
many hours on the football sidelines and the wrestling mats monitoring and caring for
the players as needed. Mike was passionate about his job, and he was passionate about
his family. He was extremely proud of both of his daughters as well as his nieces and
nephews. He loved to travel with his family, enjoyed taking them to the beach, and
supported them in every way that he could. Mike was loved by all those who knew and
loved him, and he will be missed tremendously.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Mike are his loving and devoted wife of nearly twenty-four years, Tammy Kersey Pike of Perry; his daughters, Tiffany Pike (Gabe Merritt) of Bonaire, and Michelle Pike of Perry; his sister, Debbie Pike of Milledgeville; his brother, Mark Pike (Kristina) of Macon; and several nieces and nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
