PERRY-Lula Collier Batchelor, 83, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 24, 2017, after a brief illness. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery immediately following the service. The family will visit with friends one hour before the service on Monday, March 27, 2017, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Perry, 1105 Main Street, Perry, GA 31069.Lula was born in Roberta to the late Thomas B. and Effie Moody Collier. She was raised from an infant by her maternal aunt and uncle, Gladys and Al Culpepper, after the unexpected death of her mother. She grew up in Perry, graduated from Perry High School in 1952 and attended the University of Georgia. She came back to Perry to be with and marry the love of her life, Buddy Batchelor. Lula began her career as an accountant with Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. They made their home in Perry where they raised their family. Working was something that Lula enjoyed, so after retiring from RAFB, she took a job with The Bibb Company in Ft. Valley, including the Houston Home Journal and The Leader Tribune with her daughter and son-in-law. Lula had a zest for life, enjoyed living, and had a great sense of humor. She loved Elvis. Fishing was a favorite pastime, as was going to Biloxi, Mississippi, with various family and friends. Lula's life revolved around her family, cooking a big meal for them every Sunday. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Perry since 1945 and a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the Perry Business Women's Club and the Red Hat Society. She loved watching sports on tv, especially her Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Braves, and Atlanta Falcons. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James "Buddy" Batchelor; and her brothers, Wilbur Collier, Johnny Collier, Benny "B.B." Collier, Sr., and Jobie Collier.Left to cherish the memories of Lula are her loving and devoted children, Kim Fryer (Billy) of Ft. Valley, Julie Evans (Danny) and James "Bubba" Batchelor, Jr. (Dena) of Perry; her grandchildren, Matthew Barker, Billy Barker, Deas Barker, Audrey E. Campbell, Foy Evans, and Cole Batchelor; and a host of nieces and nephews.Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
