Louis A. Scarci's Obituary
Louis A. Scarci, Sr., 92, passed away in Macon, Georgia, on October 18, 2012. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kathleen, Georgia on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Eric Filmer and Father Dawid Kwiatkowski officiating. Interment will follow in Perry Memorial Gardens. A Vigil Service will be held at Watson - Hunt Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2012, with a visitation following at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home.
Louis A. Scarci was a native of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania and the son of the late Antonino Scarci and Maria Molinaro Scarci. He was born on November 6, 1919. He relocated to Perry, Georgia in 1981. Mr. Scarci was a Band Instructor at Saint Ambrose Academy in Davenport, Iowa; Canon-McMillan High Scholl in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; Pennsylvania Training School, Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; Mount Lebanon School District, Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania; and the Mount Lebanon High School Band and Rockettes. The Mount Lebanon High School and Rockettes performed at the New Year's Day Cotton Bowl Festival Parade in Dallas, Texas, the Indianapolis 500 Downtown Parade and also the INDY 500 Parade around the track; the half-time performance for the Pittsburgh Steelers Football team, Festivities for the Penn State-UCLA football game. The Mount Lebanon High School Band also performed for the Pennsylvania Governor's Conference at the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel, and the Band and Rockettes were invited to perform for President Richard Nixon at the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport.
He regularly attended the Tuesday Morning Prayer Breakfast Group at the New Perry Hotel. He was a clarinet player who studied extensively with noted clarinet players of the Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Boston Symphony Orchestras, the famed John Phillip Sousa Band, and the University of Iowa. Mr. Scarci was a veteran of World War ll serving in the 603 Air Force Band at Cochran Field, Macon, Georgia and the Valley Forge Army General Hospital Band, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. He was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church, and Saint Julianna Catholic Church, a member of the American Legion(Perry, Georgia) and the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association. He was also elected into "Who's Who In Music."
A number of Louis Scarci's students pursued musical careers. Some earned teaching degrees and some became professional performers, including musicians, Bobby Vinton and "The Four Coins". He earned his Bachelor and Master Degrees at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and produced more than 200 football half-time band shows.
The Canonsburg High School Band performed at the "Battle of Bands" at the Wilkinsburg High School Stadium. These outstanding bands along with Indiana University of Pennsylvania Band were warmly accepted by the spectators. The Mount Lebanon High School Band Rockettes performed at the University of Pittsburgh Stadium for the WPIAL football championship game on Thanksgiving Day and also for the half-time performance at the Pittsburgh Steelers game. The Mount Lebanon High School Band participated in the annual Kennywood Amusement Park Band Day Festivities and Parade. The Mount Lebanon High School Rockettes, under the leadership of Henry R. Duda, had consistently given highly favorable performances on the football fields and in parades.
Louis A. Scarci, Sr. is survived by his son, Louis A. Scarci, Jr. of Severna Park, Maryland; daughters, Linda Morrow(Jeffrey) of Byron, Georgia and Lisa Hancock (Danny) of Perry, Georgia; grandson, Michael Morrow and granddaughters, Stephanie Scarci and Kimberly Giles; Great granddaughter, Anniston Michelle Morrow; sisters, Carmella Compeggie, Theresa Martys, and Catherine Yesenchak, all of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; nieces, Barbara Coulter, Susan Bayer, Mary Ann Phelan, Bernadette Blon, Rosemary Kloes, Celeste Lazzaro, and Martha Ann Fain; nephews, Anthony Compeggie, Joe Scarci, Joseph Scarci, John and Larry Yesenchak, Malcolm Crook, Jimmy Hogan, Donny Crook, Larry Ellison, Gary Crook, and Danny Crook.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Frank and Joseph Scarci; sister, Antoinette Scarci Deliere; granddaughter, Michelle Lynn Morrow; nephew, Johnny Ellison; and grand-nephew, Todd Ellison.
