Having a father who served in the military, Jim was born in Selma, Alabama, and moved around the country with his family. He graduated from high school in Rudyard, Michigan, and pursued an associate’s degree from Central Georgia Technical College, which supported his career and his ability to serve his community effectively. In the 1970s, Jim served as a volunteer firefighter. He dedicated his professional life to the City of Perry, where he worked as a Purchasing Agent and Supply Manager for over two decades. He was an active member of the Government Purchasing Agents of Georgia (GPAG), contributing significantly to the field through his expertise and lifelong commitment to public service.
A devout Christian, Jim was deeply involved in his faith community. He was a cherished member of the First Baptist Church of Perry for 43 years. He had many roles, including Deacon, church greeter, a member of the Baptismal Committee, and a sound system operator during services. He enjoyed singing with the sanctuary choir and the men’s quartet. Jim also participated in numerous mission trips, reflecting his dedication to faith. He was actively involved in the Perry High School Band Boosters, supporting his children and other local students in their musical endeavors.
Jim spent the majority of his life in Perry before moving to Fayetteville 15 years ago. He became active in First Baptist Church of Fayetteville, the Believers Sunday School Class, and the community there. With his hobbies including woodworking, Jim helped to build ramps for homes, assisting those in need, and crafted poignant silhouettes of kneeling soldiers, which he donated to his church for Veteran's Day displays. Through the years, he even built some furniture pieces that will be forever treasured by the recipients of such special gifts.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Erma (Norris) and Orville Moody; an infant son, Michael Todd Moody; his brothers, Tom Moody and Ed Moody; and his sister, Margaret (Moody) Rodgers.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Jim are his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Nancy (Holly) Moody of Fayetteville; his children, Jim Moody, Jr. of Atlanta, and Holly Moody Melton (Jayson) of Monroe; his grandchildren, Rebecca Moody, Ashley Moody, Hunter Melton, and Hayden Melton; his former daughter-in-law, Sandi Moody; his brother, Bob Moody; his sister-in-law, Katie Moody; his brother in-law, Alvie Rodgers; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
