JAMES "JIM" BEATTY's Obituary
PERRY –
James Barnett “Jim” Beatty passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. He was 84 years old. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Jim was born on October 29, 1939, in Dublin, Georgia, to the late Hugh and Chloebel Bleckley Beatty. A 1957 graduate of Perry High School, he was the very first quarterback for the Perry Panthers when the football program started there. Jim was an outstanding athlete and a natural leader on the team, and he was proud to be one of Fessor’s Boys on the basketball court. He was called “Jimmy” by his teammates, friends, and family. After high school, he studied Finance at the University of Georgia. It was when he was in his thirties that he met and married the love of his life, Christine Locke. The couple lived in Marietta where Jim was in Mobile Home sales and finance for over forty years. For twenty of those years, he was the business owner. After retirement, Jim and his wife returned to Houston County where he had lived for the past twenty years. He attended Cross Point Church of Perry. Jim was a lifelong, avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and enjoyed watching the games, often attending when he could.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Brook Beatty; his brother, Hugh Beatty, Jr.; and his granddaughter, Brianna Land.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Jim are his loving and devoted wife of fifty years, Christine Locke Beatty of Perry; his children, Brian Beatty of Sandy Springs, GA, Lara Robinson (Mark) of Vero Beach, FL, and Brian Land (Donna) of Dawsonville, GA; his grandchildren, Justin Robinson, Tyler Beatty, Julianne Adams (Matt), Ashley McGurkin, Tara O’Connor (Ian), and Lexie Tinsley (Cody); his great-grandchildren, Lydia Rose, Ace, Van, Jane, Jaelyn, Rose, and Lily; his sister, Nancy Hilderbrand (David) of Perry; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews; and his beloved dog, Majik.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
