GLYNIS BLOODWORTH ELLIS's Obituary
GROVANIA –
Glynis Bloodworth Ellis, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Perry Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Perry Presbyterian Church, 1111 Second Street, Perry, GA 31069.
Glynis was born on September 14, 1935, in Gordon, Georgia, to the late Roy L. and Gertie Mixon Bloodworth and was raised in Elko. She married the love of her life, the late Stonewall Jackson Ellis, Jr., in 1954, moved to Grovania which she proudly called home, and became a homemaker for their six children. As the children grew older, Glynis and Jack owned and operated Ellis Grocery. Afterwards, she worked as a food supervisor for 18 years. As an older adult, she worked for the postal service for 27 years. In all of her jobs, she was noted as a conscientious and hard-working employee.
Glynis became a Christian at a young age and was guided by a strong faith. Since 1960, she had been a dedicated member of Perry Presbyterian Church where she loved attending Sunday school and worshipping with fellow believers. She enjoyed cooking and was always available to help with a meal for any church activity.
Loving the outdoors, Glynis delighted in creating and working in her vegetable garden. She spent many hours planting, maintaining, and harvesting the produce. She enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. Glynis was known for her delicious home-cooked meals and well-stocked freezers.
The greatest joy of her life was her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to six children, she had fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. There were bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren that were dear to her, as well. She had a special relationship with each child and spent countless hours and boundless energy loving and supporting each one.
Glynis was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 62 years, Stonewall Jackson Ellis, Jr.; her granddaughter, Jennifer Leigh Ellis; three sisters, Gertie Dean Bloodworth, Eva Roy Etheredge, and Essie Claud Hughes; and a brother, Henry Bloodworth.
Left to cherish the memories made with Glynis are her children, Ricky Ellis, Jackson Ellis, Edwin Ellis (Donna), Glynelle Ellis Beeland (Jimmy), Rex Ellis (Pam), and Wesley Ellis (Janet); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Dr. Charlee B. Goolsby and Bobbe B. Richardson; her brothers, Stewart Bloodworth and Dr. Jerome Bloodworth; and her much loved nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Glynis will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
