DR. ELBERT GRIFFIN "GRIFF" LONG's Obituary
PERRY, GEORGIA -
Elbert Griffin “Griff” Long, 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, August 27, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Perry on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church of Perry, House of God Campaign, 1105 Main St, Perry, GA 31069.
Dr. Long was born and grew up in Chattanooga, the son of the late Elbert S. Long and the late Marie Tallifero Griffin Long. He attended the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and the University of Georgia, where he received a Doctorate of Education degree. He was a charter member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His career life consisted of being a teacher, counselor, and administrator/behavioral healthcare surveyor for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. He enjoyed working in the yard and surveying. Griff loved people and loved helping others. He greatly loved his Savior, Jesus.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Griff are his loving and devoted wife of nearly forty-six years, Margretta “Gretta” Wells of Perry; his daughter, Linda Marie Long-Byler of Chattanooga; his grandson, Jeremiah Byler; and his cousin, Jessie “Buddie” Clinton.
