Having Edith as my oldest sister was one of the most special things in my life, as a child. She always made sure that holidays and birthdays were special for Travers and I (he was 6 years older than me). She provided Christmas gifts, Easter baskets and birthday cakes and ice cream....all things that our parents could not afford. She took us to our first swimming pool and our first amusement park! And on our first big road trip, to Virginia, where our father's relatives lived. Because of her love of family, she would come pick Momma, Daddy, Travers and I up and take us to visit our aunts and uncles in Baltimore, at often as she could. We lived in Aberdeen and she and Joe lived in Chester, PA. Those were great times and are great memories. Seeing her confined to a nursing home was hard, as she has always been like a bird.....she loved to be free to go and come when she wanted. She said what she thought, but you loved her anyway, as usually what she said was correct......people just didn't want to hear the truth. I will miss my "Elou", (my name for her when I was a child). She's flying free as a bird and enjoying the "family reunion" in heaven!
