MACON-
Douglas Brice "Big Doug" Fincher, Jr., 66, died peacefully at his residence on Sunday, May 12, 2013, of natural causes. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Reverend Jarred Hammet and Reverend Joe McDaniel officiating. The family will receive visitors from 2 p.m. on Tuesday until the time of the service at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family has entrusted Watson-Hunt Funeral Home with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Methodist Home, 304 Pierce Ave., Macon, GA 31204 OR Northminster Presbyterian Church, 565 Wimbish Rd., Macon, GA 31210.
Mr. Fincher, a lifelong resident of Macon, was the son of Douglas Brice and Annie Laurie Tucker Fincher. Born on February 16, 1947, Mr. Fincher graduated from Lanier High School where he excelled in sports. He attended Georgia Southern University where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He was also a former member of the Georgia National Guard. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and a season ticket-holder for 40 years. He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. He married Alice Grace Gautier in 1969, and together they owned and operated Fincher's Barbecue and Catering.
Under his stewardship, Fincher's Barbecue gained a reputation for barbecue that's "out-of-this-world!" Literally. Fincher's motto, "First in Space, Best in Taste!" was established when Mr. Fincher, together with his Lanier classmate, astronaut, and Fincher's Barbecue fan Sonny Carter, had the vision and desire to add barbecue to the space program's shuttle menu. When Space Shuttle Discovery lifted off on November 22, 1989, on NASA Space Mission STS-33 - Mission Accomplished!
Mr. Fincher was preceded in death by both of his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of more than 43 years, Alice; his sons, Doug Fincher, III (Viju) and Jake Fincher; his grandchildren, Krishna, Brice, Tom, Libby, Hadley, and Caroline; his sister, Mollie Ann Fincher; his niece, Laurie Lokey Karickhoff (Brent); and his nephew, Shaw Lokey (Susan).
Condolences may be left for the family in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
