Don was born in Perry, Georgia, to the late Norlis Clinton and Mary Linton Chapman. A 1965 graduate of Perry High School, he also earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, where the foundation was laid for his lifetime love of the Georgia Bulldawgs. Don was a proud member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was a passionate history buff and genealogy enthusiast, a testament to his love for understanding the past. As a talented writer, he expressively recorded many of his findings for future generations to read. Affectionately known as “Frosty” and “Don the Juan” by friends and family, he cherished the moments spent with loved ones. Don enjoyed golfing and relished being in the company of friends and family, always looking for opportunities to create lasting memories. He was a loving and kind man that never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his infant sister, Denise Emmie Chapman, who was born a triplet, and his brother-in-law, Boyd Rider.
Don is survived by his son, Clint Chapman (Tammy) of Charleston, SC, along with his “Son #2,” Steve Roberts of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by his sisters, Diane Rider and Debra Griffin (Ted), both of Perry, Georgia, and his beloved grandchildren, Alex, Ben, and Tyler. He was also deeply loved by his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many cousins. The Byrd family, in South Carolina, also held a close place in Don’s heart.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the burial arrangements.
