Bob, Rick and Becky, so sorry for your loss. Uncle Leighton was a great man who dedicated his life to the nation, his community and his family. He will be missed. I always admired and respected him. It was no easy task, to have a family and a full time job while attending and graduating from the University of Miami School of Law. I am also a graduate of the FBI Academy and I am proud we share that distinction. When I was a young Assistant State Attorney, I had the opportunity to go on a police ride. Naturally I chose Uncle Leighton and he took me on his midnight shift in Liberty City, in downtown Miami. It was a evening full of assaults, blood, near riot and ambulances. It was an eye opening glimpse into the dangers he faced everyday keeping our community safe.
Please take some comfort in knowing what my Dad (his brother) said when he was in Hospice, "son I am going to a much better place." Hopefully, the two brothers are now reunited in that better place.
