C. Howard Gibbs' Obituary
C. Howard Gibbs, 85, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015, with his loving family by his side.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Watson - Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt prior to the service.
An additional service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Kramer Baptist Church in Wilcox County with interment at Pleasant Grove Cemetery with military honors. The family will greet family and friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Kramer Church. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Donor's favorite charity.
Howard was born in Owensboro, Georgia, and was the son of the late John Henry and Annie Othella Major Gibbs. A graduate of Miami Senior High School, in Miami, Florida, he excelled in track and field and set many records. He retired from the United State Postal Service after 36 years (four years in the U.S. Navy).
Howard was the pastor for 25 years at the Kramer Baptist Church in Wilcox County. An avid hunter and fisherman all of his life, he also enjoyed golf. Memberships included Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and the NRA. He also had a love of scouting and was the scoutmaster in Wilcox County.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 36 years, Melissa Helm Gibbs of Perry; children, Lora Ann Averyt (Ken) of Fitzgerald, John Curtiss Gibbs (Shannon) of Davidson, North Carolina, and Deanne Williamson of Perry; grandchildren, Jay Wall, Autumn Wall Wilbanks, and Maura Williamson; great-grandchildren, Ali Wilbanks, Six Wall, and Ray Wall.
