Billie Goode Mosteller's Obituary
Billie Goode Mosteller, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry. The family will visit with friends the hour preceding the service, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., in the sanctuary at the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church of Perry, 1105 Main Street, Perry, GA 31069. Mrs. Mosteller was born in Terrell County and began teaching at the age of 18. Soon after, she moved to Perry and began teaching at Perry Grammar School. She met and married the love of her life, Luther Mosteller, and the couple remained in Perry to raise their family. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Georgia College and a Master’s Degree from Georgia Southwestern College. At times in her early years of education, Mrs. Mosteller taught Kindergarten in her back yard, and eventually worked with the Houston County Board of Education for 30 years teaching mostly Second Grade. She was inducted into the Houston County Teacher Hall of Fame, was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma – a fraternity for teachers – since 1974, and was a member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators. Mrs. Mosteller maintained close relationships with many of her former students, even mentoring many of them who chose to pursue a career in the education field. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Perry since 1946, having taught 4-year-olds Sunday School for many years, RA’s each week – teaching children to support and pray for missionaries, and Vacation Bible School during the summers. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class later in life. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Anna Rebecca Chambless Goode; her beloved husband of 56 years, Luther Mosteller; her sister, Dorothy Willingham; and her brother, Vasser Goode. Left to cherish the memories of Mrs. Mosteller are her loving and devoted children, Martin Mosteller (Donna) of Leesburg, and Becky Brooks (Ken) of Cochran; her grandchildren, Margo Morris (Matt) of Leesburg, Jenny Brooks of Cochran, and Beth Velasquez (Chris) of Auburn, Alabama; and her great-grandchildren, Mardi Morris, Brooks Squires, and Juliana Velasquez.
