She grew up in Perry and studied piano under Gladys Pinkston of Macon who taught her the basis of a lifetime talent that Bess often enjoyed through the years. A 1977 graduate of The Westfield School, she attended Brenau College where she joined Alpha Delta Pi sorority and formed many meaningful and lasting friendships. Bess graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor Degree in Consumer Economics and had always remained a Bulldog fan. After college, she moved to Augusta for a brief period of time before settling in Fitzgerald to raise her family. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald. Bess always enjoyed decorating the home in which she raised 3 daughters, each of whom she was so proud. Some say she inherited a "green thumb" from her mother, as Bess enjoyed gardening and loved flowers. She spent lots of time with her family and friends at the beach, especially St. Simons Island, a place she dearly loved to be. The thing Bess cherished most in life was her family, who will dearly miss her. Left to cherish the memories of Bess are her daughters, Annie Sumner (Dereck) of Tifton, Maggie Mulherin of Athens, and Caroline Mulherin (Ware Bostick) of Tifton; her sisters, Terry Wood (Rusty) of Perry and Nan Moore of Atlanta; two nieces, Whitney Wood Bailey and Meade Moore Fields; and her beloved faithful companion, her dog, Harley.Friends are invited to leave condolences for the family in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
