Barbara Jeanne Jones' Obituary
PERRY-
Barbara Jeanne Jones, 83, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Perry, 1105 Main Street, Perry, Georgia 31069.
Barbara was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, while her father was stationed there with the Army. Her parents, the late Major Dudley and Gladys Hill Jones, moved around the world with Barbara in tow as her father developed his career as an Army Officer. The Jones family settled in Perry during World War II and later began Jones Jewelers in Dowtown Perry. Upon graduation from Perry High School, Barbara attended Shorter College from where she received a degree in Education. She taught elementary school in Rome, Albany, and Atlanta, before moving home to become part of the family business, which she dearly loved. Barbara enjoyed traveling, making memories all over the US and abroad, needlepointing and cross-stitching, reading, shopping, and collecting. An active member of First Baptist Church of Perry for much of her life, Barbara was also very active in our community. The second woman on the Perry Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, she was also a charter member and very active with the Pilot Club. She was named Perry's Woman of the Year by the Pilot Club in 1975. Barbara served on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Jeweler's Association and as President of the Perry Area Historical Society. She enjoyed her involvement with the Downtown Merchants Association, Perry Retail Merchants Association, and her time as a member of Perry Kiwanis Club. Barbara had a very close relationship with her parents, and they are sure to be rejoicing in Heaven as they are reunited once again!
Barbara is survived by several cousins, and many friends and customers who admired her and befriended her through the years at Jones Jewelers. Thoughts and memories about Miss Barbara may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
