Alma Gentry Beckham's Obituary
PerryAlma Gentry Beckham passed away at the Oaks Nursing Home on June 29, 2016, at the age of 88. She was born in Bibb County, Georgia, and the attended Heard Elementary as a child. Her family later moved to Bonaire, Georgia and she graduated from Bonaire High School. She attended Georgia Southwestern College for two years and transferred to Georgia State College for Women, graduating in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in home economics teacher. She later worked for the University of Georgia Extension Service as a home demonstration agent in Houston County. Subsequent to her work for the university she worked with the Houston County Board of Education in multiple positions including teaching, serving as the director of school food service, and retiring as the school librarian at Perry Elementary School.Alma was an active member of Crossroads United Methodist Church and later, Perry United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Akita Club and the American Legion Auxillary. She was preceded in death by her parents, John C. Gentry Sr. and Hallie Stokes Gentry, her brothers Curtis, John, Fenton, Raymond, Marvin, and Irvin, and her sister Miriam Gentry. Alma was married to the late Milton V Beckam. She was preceeded om death by an infant daughter, Kathryn Beckham, and she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Keith and Alice Beckham of Ashford, Alabama, their children Richard and Emily Camp and a grandchild Carter Gentry Camp, of Temple, Georgia, and son Kevin Beckham of Perry, Georgia. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM with funeral services immediately following at 11:30 AM, Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Perry United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Perry.
