Willie L. Sledge's Obituary
Willie L. Sledge, 87, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Second Memorial Baptist Church. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 12, 2013, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home.
Mr. Sledge was a lifelong resident of Houston County. He proudly served our country in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II in China. Mr. Sledge worked as a Maintenance Mechanic for the Department of Defense at Robins Air Force Base for over 30 years. A member of Second Memorial Baptist Church, he was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was predeceased by his parents, Katie L. Sledge and Tommy Sledge; a brother, Horace E. Sledge; and two sisters, Betty Lyles and Vera Huggins.
Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Sledge are his loving wife of 65 years, Juanita Jones Sledge; his children, Theresa Sledge Pitzer of Warner Robins, Peggy Rowland of Perry,Janie Lee Boutin of Charleston, SC, Mark Sledge (Gina) of Austin, Texas, James Ray Sledge of Milledgeville; and Brenda Kay Helmburg (Gary) of Perry; his siblings, Otis Sledge of Perry, Paul McElmurray of Atlanta; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
