Dr. William 'Will' Murray's Obituary
PERRY-
Dr. William "Will" Murray, 82, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. All services are private. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 886 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201, or Andee’s Army, Inc., supporting children and youth with brain injuries, P. O. Box 420016, Atlanta, GA 30342 or www.andeesarmy.com.
Will was born in Charlotte, NC, to the late Hoke and Cleta Bulloch Murray. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy for four years, trained and worked in submarines in electronics, specializing in sonar operation. While serving, he was injured on a submarine, and was subsequently inspired by the doctor who treated his injury to shift his interest from electronics to family medicine. Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy, Will attended and received his Doctorate degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He spent 40 years in Family Medical Practice, mostly in the Atlanta area. Dr. Murray's kindness, understanding, patience, and gentleness led him to be loved and appreciated, not only by his patients, but also by his loving family who adored him. A wonderful dad and "Grandad", as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren, Will was always there when he was needed and always willing to lend a helping hand. With a love for art and a truly creative nature about him, he was passionate about listening to music, playing the guitar, drawing/sketching, and painting, all of which he did with his family on a regular basis. He gave great care and personal attention to his family of whom he was so proud. Will enjoyed sailing. With the wind in the sails heisted far above his head, the calm, smooth movement of the boat often mimicked the way he sailed through life. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers.
Left to cherish the memories of Will are his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Lisa Ogletree Murray of Perry; his children, Amy Kirk (John) of New Jersey, Lyn Poulos (John) of Atlanta, Jon Chambers (Matt) of Homer, and Ben Murray of Dalonegha; his grandchildren, Megan Kirk, John Kirk, Jr., Andee Poulos, George Poulos, Kate Chambers, Kendle Chambers, and Betsy Chambers; a brother, John Murray of Cartersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
