WILLIAM T MONTGOMERY's Obituary
PERRY –
William T. Montgomery, 87, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, February 27, 2021. A private Interment will be held for the family in Perry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Second Memorial Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service that will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Leland Collins officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Second Memorial Baptist Church, 1845 Kings Chapel Road, Perry, GA 31069.
Bill was born in the Crowell community of Taylor County, Georgia, on March 26, 1933, to the late Otis Paul and Viola Parker Montgomery. He graduated from Reynolds High School in 1952. This was the first year that schools in Reynolds went through the 12th grade. After graduation, Billy farmed for one year planting cotton and quickly realized he did not want to do that for the rest of his life. He then went to work for his Aunt Rachel Parr’s Poultry, Feed, and Hatchery business. Bill started with Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base in 1956 and retired in 1989 after thirty-three years of service.
He met and married the love of his life, Emily Ruth Allen, of Butler in June of 1959, and the couple moved to Perry. Bill enjoyed gardening, woodworking, singing in the Joy Choir at Perry United Methodist Church, and performing with Perry Players in the local community theatre. He was an original “Fair Cracker,” along with his wife, Emily, volunteering at the Georgia National Fair in Perry for many years. Bill sang at countless weddings, funerals, and church events throughout Middle Georgia. He was a member of Perry United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish the memories of Bill are all those who lovingly referred to him as “Papa,” his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Karen Montgomery; his daughter and son-in-law, Leanne and Charles Greene; his grandchildren, Will Greene, Taylor Montgomery (Amanda), Kaitlyn Montgomery, and Savannah McLeod (Joe); his great-grandchildren, Breezlyn Montgomery, Isabelle Pinckney Greene, and Landon Bryant McLeod; and his brother, Marvin Montgomery (Ellen).
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his loving and devoted wife of fifty-one years, Emily Allen Montgomery; his sister, Wilma Waits; and his brothers, Richard Montgomery and Paul Montgomery.
The family would like to express special thanks to Papa’s caregivers at Summerhill.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
