William Barron Mathers Sr.'s Obituary
William Barron Mathers Sr., age 89, a longtime resident of Theodore, AL passed away on October 27, 2014. He was an Army Air-Corps World War II Veteran, a longtime member of American Legion Post 250 and VFW Post 49 and served in the Honor Guard of both organizations. Following his honorable discharge he resumed his civil service career at Brookley Field and later moved to Corpus Christi Naval Air Station where he retired in 1983. Following his retirement he returned to Mobile to be closer with his family and friends.He was preceded in death by his siblings, Chester E. Mathers Sr., Charles S. Mathers Sr., Charles D. Mathers and Dorothy M. Ammons.He is survived by his children, Linda (Stephen) Cross, Diane M. Green, William “Barry” Mathers Jr., siblings, Norma M. Hawkins, Terry Mathers, Carl (Linda) Mathers, Barbara (Patrick) Bonner, granddaughter, April (Peter) Masson, great grandchildren, Ewan M. Masson, Isla R. Masson, special friend and caregiver, Mary Johnson, nieces, nephews, special nephew, Phillip (Sherry) Mathers, other relatives and many friends, including his family from American Legion Post 250.Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 12 noon until 2 pm. Graveside service will be held in Serenity Memorial Gardens on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 2 pm.
