Born in Houston County to the late Leolin and Julia Hartley Greer, Mr. Greer grew up in Crawford County. He proudly served our country in the U. S. Army during World War II, then he returned home to work with his father on the family's peach and cotton farm. Mr. Greer met the love of his life, Mae Mitchell, and, after courting for several years, finally asked for her hand in marriage. They built a home on the farm, and in 1957, they left the farm and moved to Perry to raise their family. Mr. Greer worked for Lewis Truck and Tractor Company for 38 years. A talented craftsman, he was always building something. Through the years, he loved to help his wife and children get ready for Bible School each summer by building whatever they needed. He spent many hours doing something he enjoyed, pampering the roses in his rose gardens. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, his true love was his family, with which he treasured every moment. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Greer.
Left to cherish the memories are his loving wife of 64 years, Mae Mitchell Greer of Perry; his children, Ronnie Greer (Gladys) of Americus, Brenda Greer Evans (Chop) of Ft. Valley, and Tim Greer (Susie) of Perry; his grandchildren, Matthew Greer (Estelle), Nathan Greer (Emily), Alva Davis (Amy), Katie Davis Andrew (Neal), Mitch Greer (Shelly), Kyle Greer, and Michael White (Dianne); and eleven great-grandchildren.
