In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Perry United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 73, Perry, GA 31069.Mr. Gray was born in Houston County to the late William Walter and Ethel Roberts Gray. A lifetime resident of Perry, he was a 1943 Graduate of Perry High School and attended University of Georgia. He met and married the love of his life, Betty Connell Gray, and they have lived in Perry their entire married life. Together, they created a wonderful environment in which to raise their children. Betty has been such a loving and devoted wife throughout the years, but particularly through Walter's illness for which he was ever so grateful. He was a farmer for many years during which he was awarded Houston County's Man of the Year in 1978 by Ocmulgee Conservation District. He was a Member of GA Farm Bureau; a former Director of GA Cattlemen's Association; a member of American Angus Association; and was a Committeeman for Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. Walter always had a garden and took great delight in sharing the fruits of his labors - actually vegetables - with his family and friends, especially after he retired. It seemed the longer he was retired, the larger his garden became, and the more friends he was able to bless. A long-time member of Perry United Methodist Church, he was a member of the IHS Sunday School Class. One of Walter's favorite past times was playing golf at Perry Country Club, but his greatest passion in life was spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 4 sisters, and 2 grandchildren. Left to cherish the memories of "Papa" are his beloved wife of 65 years, Betty Connell Gray; his children, Steve Gray (Janna), Stanley Gray, Lee Brown (Kenneth), and Walter Gray, III (Kelly), all of Perry, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
