William Drew Bynum's Obituary

William Drew Bynum, 87, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
Mr. Bynum was born in Hartford, Alabama, to the late Edward and Emmie Nola Brown Bynum. He proudly entered the U. S. Navy at age 17 to serve our country in World War II. Upon his return from the war, he received a Bachelor's Degree from Auburn University. Mr. Bynum began working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Buena Vista as a Soil Conservationist. In 1966, he was transferred to Perry, where he worked the remaining years until his retirement in 1981, serving over 30 years. A long-time member of First Baptist Church of Perry, Mr. Bynum was a member of the Barnabus Sunday School Class, a former Deacon, and served on various committees through the years. He was a member and former President of the Lions Club, and was a member of the American Legion. After retirement, Mr. Bynum worked as a Consultant to many, many people building lakes and ponds in Middle Georgia. He was a true fisherman and gardener, spending lots of time outdoors, developing and enjoying the beautiful earth that God created. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Bynum are his loving wife of over 64 years, Mattie Lou Norris Bynum of Perry; his daughters, Patsy Newberry (Stewart) of Montezuma, Sheila Steck (Charlie) of Concord, and Donna Waldbusser (Ray) of Newport, North Carolina; two brothers, Lex Bynum (Dell) of Bonifay, Florida, and Donald Bynum (Arlene) of Mobile, Alabama; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
