Life Legacy
PERRY-William "Bill" Chapman, 92, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary at Perry United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery after the services. Mr. Bill was born in Perry to the late H.P. Chapman and the late Lillian Phillips Chapman. A lifelong resident of Perry, he graduated from Perry High School and immediately went to work as an Aircraft Mechanic in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. After having worked there for a few years, he was drafted and proudly served our country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Upon his return to Perry, Mr. Bill returned to RAFB to work in Civil Service. He continued there, was promoted several times, and retired as a Logistics Manager after 37 total years of service. He was a long-time member of Perry United Methodist Church where he served as an usher for many years, volunteered as the former Property Manager for 6 years, and was a member of the Howell Cobb Sunday School Class. Mr. Bill retired at age 55, and enjoyed many years helping others and volunteering in his community. One of his favorite things to work on was his vegetable garden where he grew some of Perry's finest tomatoes and shared them with anyone and everyone with whom he crossed paths. He was a member of the VFW in Perry and loved working with them every year selling steak sandwiches at Perry's annual Georgia National Fair. Mr. Bill was also a member of the American Legion and was a Mason. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Aileene Dent Chapman; his brothers, Howell Chapman and Tom Chapman; and his daughter, Claire Chapman.Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Bill are his loving and devoted daughters, Lane Chapman (Vern Jarvis) of Atlanta, and Angela Gillman (John) of Perry; his grandchildren, Stephanie Griffin (Scott) of Naples, Florida, and Jameson Stocks (Julie) of Perry; his great-grandchildren, Gracie, Lillie, and Shelby; his brother, Harris Chapman, and his sister, Mary Beckham, both of Perry; and many nieces and nephews.Special Thanks from the family to Mr. Bill's caregiver, Barbara Mace, the staff at Church Home Rehabilitation and Healthcare, and Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and extra special attention they all gave Mr. Bill.
