WILLIAM LARRY BOWERS's Obituary
PERRY –
William Larry Bowers, aka “Papa”, passed peacefully on November 26, 2023. At his request, services are private. In lieu of flowers or a donation, Larry would most appreciate you all spending precious time with those you love.
Larry was born on July 25, 1940, in New Brockton, Alabama, where he was a graduate of New Brockton High School. He went on to graduate from Auburn University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent the majority of his career employed by General Electric in Rome, GA. Larry’s work in the transformer division resulted in his holding numerous patents. Upon his retirement from GE in Rome, GA, he and Brenda relocated to Perry, GA, to be closer to family. From Perry, he continued consulting professionally for several years until the desires to go fishing, enjoy his woodworking, and nurture his grandchildren, alongside his wife, became too great. Larry, as most called him, was a true jack of all trades. If he couldn’t build it or fix it, then, frankly, no one could. He was a self-made man in every way. From his woodworking to his backyard mechanics, he was a do-it-yourself genius from the lower parts of south Alabama. He never met a piece of wood he couldn’t turn into a beautiful piece of furniture or a lovely bowl, or a fish he couldn’t catch…eventually. Needless to say, his sons-in-law had a tough act to follow. Papa was the most loving and loyal husband, father, and grandfather there ever was. In return, he was immensely loved and will be forever missed by his family. There is no doubt that he was met by his loving and devoted wife, Brenda, with a delicious plate of fried chicken.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly fifty years, Brenda Parker Bowers; his mother and father, Flossie Golden Bowers and Wesley Bowers; and his brother, Tony Bowers.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Larry are his daughters, Pamela Bowers (Stephan Schoenherr) of Augsburg, Germany, and Cynthia Alligood (Todd) of Macon, GA; his grandchildren, Anna Huff, Georgia Schoenherr, Louis Schoenherr, and Ashlyn Alligood; his sisters, Linda Howell (Glen) and Faye Turner; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
