WILLIAM "BILL" THAMES's Obituary
HENDERSON –
William Morris “Bill” Thames passed away peacefully on Friday, July 15, 2022, after a brief illness. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Perry with the Visitation at 2:00 p.m. and the Funeral at 3:00 p.m. A private interment for the family will be in Henderson Cemetery immediately following the service.
Born January 26, 1927, Bill was a general contractor, well known and respected for his quality work. His faith and family were what he held most dear. He served as a deacon in the churches he attended throughout his life, formerly at Henderson Baptist Church and most recently First Baptist Church of Perry where he was also a member of the Barnabas Sunday School Class. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a young man and took great pride in recounting his experiences with the Seabees during World War II.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Doris Youngblood Thames; an infant daughter, Janet; his mother and father, Morris and Eva Thames; his brothers, Jim Thames and Doug Thames; and his sisters Jewel Roquemore, Nadine Foster, Faye Sullivan, and Peggy Beaver.
Left to cherish their memories of Bill are his daughters, Jeanie Penley of Perry, Jill McGuire of Roswell, Carolyn Wood (Allen) of Henderson, Cindy Ott (Stephen) of Alpharetta; his grandchildren, Nicole Smith (Jesse), Holly Turner (Mike), Logan McGuire (Kathleen), Alex Wood (Monica), Brian Wood (Courtney), Jay Elliot (Ferrell), Wesley Tucker, Lindsay Tucker, Julia Ott Berg (Lee), Stephen Ott Jr., (Kathy), Teresa Penley Sheppard, Steve Penley, Chris Penley, and Holden Penley; ten great-grandchildren; his brother, Ted Thames (Frances); his sisters, Beverly Lunsford and Brenda Shugart (Jack); and numerous nieces and nephews.
