WILLIAM DUANE "BILL" AMYX's Obituary
William Duane “Bill” Amyx, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2025, in his home in Perry, Georgia. He was born on September 29, 1938, in Connersville, IN, the oldest son of the late Albert Clinton and Ruby E. Powell Amyx.
After the completion of high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country from January 1957 to January 1977. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of Technical Sergeant. After his retirement, he accepted a position with the Houston County Public Works in the Roads and Bridges Department. Bill enjoyed his career with the county, was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor, and made many great friends throughout the thirty years he worked there. Bill was a mechanic by trade, and if he wasn’t working at his job, he could be found tinkering in his garage at home. He loved to play cards and board games, and his favorite past time was being with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Betty Jo Amyx of Perry, Georgia; his children, DeAnn (Tom Budnick) Amyx, Penny Amyx, and Jim Amyx, and Ryan (Jennifer) Ross and Bill Ross. He will be deeply missed by his siblings, Roger Amyx and Cynthia Norka. His memories will live on forever in his numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Along with his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his second wife, Shirley Loraine; his siblings, Ronnie Amyx, Ilene Babcock, Barbara Jo Charles, and Juanita Landers; a son, Joe Ross; and a grandson, Jacob Amyx.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Urban Winkler Funeral Home located at 513 W 8th Street, Connersville, IN 47331. Friends and Family will gather from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and the funeral will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Scott Moistner officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
