ELKO -Walter C. "Buddy" McDowell, 91, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Haynesville. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 5, 2017, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Al-Sihah Shrine Temple, Greenville Shriners Hospitals for Children®, P.O. Box 3147, Macon, GA 31205.Mr. Buddy was born in Avon Park, Florida, to the late Walter Clark McDowell and Henrietta Bell McDowell. He lived most of his life in the Elko/Grovania area of Houston County. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. Upon return from the military, Mr. Buddy began working in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base, where he retired after over 40 years of service. He was a Mason for over 50 years, a member of the Al Sihah Temple in Macon, and the Perry Shrine Club. He was very active with the Perry Shriners and enjoyed cooking and working at the barbecue pit at the various fundraisers through the years. Mr. Buddy always had dogs throughout his life, and loved the companionship they shared. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and his extended family members. A good friend to many, Mr. Buddy will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, 2 brothers, a grandchild, and a great-grandchild.Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Buddy are his loving and devoted wife of over 45 years, Jackie McDowell of Elko; his children, Franklin "Mac" McDowell (Rose) of West Palm Beach, Florida, Sheryl Burnett of Grovania, Bill McDowell (Kim) of Thomaston, Evelyn Castleberry (Jim) of Sylvester, Sheila Pope of Green Bay, Alabama, Jeane Adams (Lee) of McDonough, and Gene McDowell of Perry; his siblings, Willie Ed McDowell (Mary Ann) and Dolly Streetman (P.T.), both of Elko; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
