VIVIAN DYER HAWK's Obituary
PERRY-
Vivian Dyer Hawk, 89, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024, after a long battle with dementia. The visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church of Perry with a brief service to follow. Interment will take place at Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3040 Riverside Drive Suite B4, Macon, Georgia 31210.
Vivian was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the late Austin Dyer and the late Bertha Fultz Dyer on November 19, 1934. After spending her formative years in Ohio, she moved to Perry, Georgia, to become a schoolteacher at Perry Elementary School. Vivian was a teacher her entire adult life and retired from Tucker Elementary School. She molded many young people, as a teacher, and will be fondly remembered by all those who were touched by her gift.
Outside of her job and passion as a teacher, Vivian loved her family dearly. After marrying David W. Hawk, the couple had two sons. Their sons expanded the family, giving them a large brood of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite times were spent around the holidays with her large family, always baking the most delicious pies and cakes for those she loved most.
In her spare time, Vivian was involved in many clubs including the Perry Junior League and the Akikta Club of Perry. She was also a proud supporter of the Boy Scouts of America for many years. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Perry as well as The Joy Sunday School Class. Her faith was first in her life, and she took great comfort in John 11: 25; “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.’”
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, and her son, Dale E. Hawk.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Vivian are her son, David Hawk (Nancy) of Perry, Georgia; her brother, Joe Fultz (Hazel) of Texas; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to Ms. Diane Barfield, who was a special presence in Vivian’s later life. Her love, care, and friendship were dear to both Vivian and her family, and the family is grateful for her relationship with their mother.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
