VIRGINIA CARLISLE BRYANT's Obituary
DeSOTO, ILLINOIS –
Virginia Carlisle Bryant, 96, formerly of Perry, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, in the home of her daughter, Jenny Bryant White, in Southern Illinois. Services will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Perry Presbyterian Church, with visitation beginning at 2:30 p.m. and the funeral beginning at 3:00 p.m. Reverend Parker Agnew and Reverend Glenn Jakes will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Perry immediately following the service.
Virginia was born on March 8, 1928, to the late Luther Hamilton and Maude Guyton Carlisle in Grovania, Georgia. She was one of 18 cousins, self-proclaimed the “Gang of 18,” of which now only 2 remain. She married Darby Worth Bryant on January 5, 1946, and lived a contented, energetic life as homemaker and mother of 6 children. She would proudly and quickly introduce you to them as, “Kenny, Donna, Bill, Ricky, David, and Jenny”. Although she has lived for the past 12 years with Jenny and Scott White in Southern Illinois due to dementia issues, she always called Perry, Georgia, “home.” Virginia would always invite friends and family to come visit her “anytime you came through Perry”, and she meant it. She was a master of southern hospitality with a relaxed air. Virginia’s favorite place to go, besides the Macon Mall, was to church at Perry Presbyterian Church and more recently, to Cornerstone Reformed Church in Carbondale, Illinois.
Virginia was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of over forty years, Darby Worth Bryant; a son, William Allison “Bill” Bryant; her sister, Avarene Carlisle Moody; and her brother, Raymond “Pete” Carlisle.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Virginia are three of her sons, Kenneth Darby “Kenny” Bryant and Richard Worth “Rick” Bryant, both of Perry, Georgia, and David Russell Bryant of Acworth, Georgia; her two daughters, Donna Irene Bryant of St. Augustine, Florida, and Jenny Lynn White (Scott) of De Soto, Illinois; sixteen grandchildren; over forty great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
