Vinita Bradford Ritchie's Obituary
Vinita Ritchie, age 86, a native of Sumiton, AL and a lifelong resident of Wilmer, AL passed away on Wednesday, February, 12, 2014. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star and a foster parent to numerous children for over 20 years. Mrs. Ritchie was known as the “cake lady”. Her homemade butter cream cakes were legendary in the Mobile area. She provided cakes for numerous school parties, church functions, birthday parties, baby showers, business parties and weddings throughout Mobile county. Thousands of people over the span of 35 years entered her home to retrieve one of Mrs. Ritchie’s special cakes and left with a new found friendship for the tiny elderly lady that never stopped. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thaddeus Clifton Ritchie, Daughter, Scarlett Loucresia Miles, son, Karl Clifton Ritchie. She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Darlene (Bill) Melchionne, Renee (Rob) Starin, grandchildren, Amanda (Ron) McCormick, Robert Joseph (Shannon) Starin Jr., Adam (Lori) Austin, Patrick (Holly) Williams Jr., Joshua (Britany) Williams, Megan (Joshua) LaCoste, Breanna Williams, 11 great grandchildren. Minister conducting service is Rev. Kenny Odom. Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Sunday, February 16, 2014 from 3 pm until 5 pm. Funeral service will be held at Gospel Lighthouse Assembly of God on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 1 pm. Interment will be in Valhalla Cemetery.
