VICTOR E. SLAW's Obituary
FORT VALLEY –
Victor Edward Slaw, 66, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2023, after an extended illness. Services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Haynesville with the Visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. and the Funeral starting at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Winfred Huff will be officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery immediately following the service.
Victor was born in Dover AFB, Delaware, and moved to Warner Robins when his dad was transferred to Robins Air Force Base. He graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1974 and soon after, proudly joined the U.S. Navy. After serving there, Victor joined the Air Force Reserves and remained on active duty for a few more years. Upon his return to civilian life, he accepted a position at RAFB with Civil Service as an Electronics Mechanic in “Eagle Country,” where he retired after twenty-eight years, altogether serving the federal government thirty-five years. Victor was an avid cyclist through the years and could be seen riding his bike all over Houston County. He was a thoughtful man, and knowing he had beautiful hair, would grow his hair long, cut it, and donate to Locks of Love. That donation made him smile over and over, because it donated his locks for over thirty years. Victor loved to cook and could often be found in “his” kitchen cooking a bountiful meal for his family, his friends, and his children’s friends. He was so proud of his delicious vittles, especially when people let him know how much they loved it.
Victor was preceded in death by his father, Victor H. Slaw; his dad, Jim Sturdivant; and his brothers, Jimmy Sturdivant and Randy Sturdivant.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Victor are his loving and devoted wife of thirty-eight years, Michele Stewart Slaw of Fort Valley, his children, Johna Grammer (Will) of Kathleen, and Eric Slaw (Erica) of Perry; nine grandchildren; his mother, Joyce LeCates Sturdivant of Warner Robins; his siblings, Nadine Sweeney (Richard), Scott Sturdivant (Sandy), and Hope Trauth (Philip); and many nieces and nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
