Vera Ann Woodard Mellette's Obituary
BONAIRE -
Vera Ann Woodard Mellette, 84, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Warner Robins with Reverend Paul Cowles officiating. Interment will be in Bonaire Cemetery immediately following the service. The family will greet friends on Friday, February 22, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to The Building Fund at Friendship Baptist Church, 1322 Feagin Mill Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
Mrs. Mellette was born in 1928 in Bonaire to the late Angus E. Woodard, Sr. and Vera I. Collins Woodard. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Perry for many wonderful years, and was most recently a member at Friendship Baptist Church in Warner Robins. She started working as a typist at The Jacksonville Journal soon after graduation from high school. She met and married the love of her life, Frank Matthew Mellette, Sr., and they eventually returned to Georgia. Mrs. Mellette loved raising her children and creating a loving home for her family. The Mellettes owned and operated Ace Hardware in Bonaire for 15 years. A gracious lady, Mrs. Mellette will be remembered for her kind spirit and her generosity. Cooking was her passion, and Mrs. Mellette cooked for everyone. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Frank Mellette; her brothers, Angus Woodard and Billy Woodard; and her sisters, Betty Wall and Ruth Lumpkin.
Left to cherish her memories are her son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Donna Mellette of Warner Robins; her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Tony Pickett of Conyers; four granddaughters, Jenny Moss (Richard) of Walnut Grove, JoAnna Pickett of Conyers, Janie Pickett of Conyers, and Jill Pickett of Conyers; two grandsons, Jake Taylor of Warner Robins, and Josh Pierce of Cleveland, Tennessee; five great-grandsons; and many special nieces and nephews.
