Troy Reid Cates, 91, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at his residence, with his loving wife of 55 years by his side. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17 at the Perry First Baptist Church , with military honors. The family suggests contributions to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Dr, Warner Robins, Georgia. Mr. Cates was the son of the late Lonnie and Jewell Holmes Cates and was born in Durham, North Carolina. He had lived here for the past 15 years moving from Garner, North Carolina. Mr. Cates was a retired Barber, a former department manager at K-Mart, and a security guard at Tolleson Lumber Company. A U.S. Army Veteran, he served in World War ll and Korea.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Annie Edwards Cates of Perry; children, Frieda Durden and Jeannie Cates, both of Ft. Valley, Rhoda Fort of Knightdale, N.C., and Lora Jackson of Pensacola, Florida; siblings, Jerry Cates, Bobby Cates, Garland Cates, Edith Apple; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Pollard.
