TOMMY BONNER's Obituary
Daniel Thomas Bonner Jr “Tommy,” age 85, entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church in Perry, Georgia, from 11:00 a.m. to 12 Noon, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Interment at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Cemetery will immediately follow the service. The Reverend Steve Gray will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church, P.O. Box 596, Bethlehem, GA 30602.
Tommy was born on October 10, 1938, into the loving home of Dan and Margaret Bonner in Norfolk, Virginia. The family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, when Tommy was one year old. He graduated from Southwest DeKalb High School and became a residential home builder. Through the years, he built many homes in Decatur, Avondale Estates, and the surrounding Atlanta areas. Tommy patiently mentored many in the construction field.
Tommy dedicated much of his time and talents to Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church. Locally, he served his church in Atlanta as a leader for thirteen years, and as Chairman of the Church Conference for decades. He was also Chairman of the Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Board of Extension for ten years. In that capacity, he enthusiastically assisted with many major projects on the church’s main campus in Perry, such as the construction of the current sanctuary and cafeteria, and an early expansion of the church’s nursing home. He had the wisdom to expand the Board of Extension from a few members to fifteen members to oversee the growing needs of the church campground and the people it serves. Tommy Bonner had a heart for serving his church.
Tommy is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Bernie Lewis Bonner; his daughter, Candy Barnes (Ronnie); his son, Danny Bonner (Karen); and his grandchildren, Stephen Barnes (Megan), Anna Collins (Matt), Daniel Bonner, and Wyatt Bonner; and his great-grandchildren, Essie, Finn, Ezra, Hallie, and Palmer.
Condolences for the family may be left at the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
