TOMMY SUE BEDFORD's Obituary
RENTZ –
Tommy Sue Roberts Bedford, 93, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Warner Robins. Dr. Paul Cowles will officiate. Interment will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Macon immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Alzheimer’s Association, 3040 Riverside Drive, Macon, GA 31210.
Tommy Sue was born in Old Hickory, Tennessee to the late Thomas Jefferson Roberts and the late Mary Jane Roberts Brooke and lived most of her life in Houston County. She was always very active in her church. As a young mother, she taught Girls in Action (GA’s) at Rehoboth Baptist Church in Perry. Through the years, Mrs. Tommy was instrumental in implementing a missions program through the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) to visit nursing homes and share the love of God through music with residents. She remained faithful to the end in supporting the Annie Armstrong, Lottie Moon, and Appalachian missions. Mrs. Tommy was currently a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Mrs. Tommy worked as a Secretary with Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. After sixteen years of service, she left her job at the base to become a full-time homemaker when her late husband, George, retired from his job. They enjoyed working outside in their garden every summer, watching hummingbirds, and admiring their flowers. Mrs. Tommy was a phenomenal cook and was delighted to spend time canning vegetables and making jams and jellies for her family and friends to enjoy throughout the year. Knitting, crocheting, and making quilts became some of her favorite things to do. As her grandchildren and great-grandchildren joined the family, Mrs. Tommie took time to carefully craft an afghan especially for the newborn. A southern lady with a true servant’s heart, she loved to bake and share, especially by gifting the “Friendship Cake” as often as she could.
Mrs. Tommy was preceded in death by her parents; her loving and devoted husband of forty-four years, George W. Bedford; and her sister, Ruth Jane Pigg.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Mrs. Tommy are her children, Barbara Evans (Rickie) of Rentz, Bill McCain (Jeff Kenner) of St. Petersburg, Florida, Wayne Bedford (Kathy) of Warner Robins, Wanda Bedford Smith of Germantown, Ohio, and Donna Lang (Chris) of Warner Robins; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
