MARSHALLVILLE, GA-Shirley Knowles Gross, 81, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry. Interment will also be on Monday, December 11, 2017, at 12:00 Noon in Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville. Reverend David Fisher will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Kindred Hospice, 319 Margie Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088.Shirley was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana, and graduated from Mercer University, earning a degree in Sociology and a minor in Theology. She met and married the love of her life, William Gross, who was active in the U.S. Air Force. Throughout his career, they traveled and lived all over the world, including Japan, Germany, England, New York, and Arkansas. Shirley was the perfect military wife and mother, continuously working to create a loving and peaceful environment in which to raise their daughter. For a period of 12 years, Shirley worked as a Social Worker for the Department of Family and Children Services. In their later years, the couple settled in Marshallville. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Haynesville. She was preceded in death by her parents, John T. and Flossie Mae Phillips Knowles.Left to cherish the memories of Shirley are her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Bill Gross of Marshallville; her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Terry and Philip Manning of Warner Robins; and her grandchildren, Lauren Manning and Evan Manning (Catherine).
