SGT. LAMAR JACKSON ELROD, US ARMY, RET.'s Obituary
GEORGETOWN –
Sgt. Lamar Jackson Elrod, US Army, Ret., 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 26, 2022, from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry, followed by a Graveside Service at 5:00 p.m. in Magnolia Park Cemetery in Warner Robins. Reverend Bill Sercer will officiate.
Lamar was born in Quitman County to the late Cicero Jackson Elrod and the late Edna Frances McMichael Elrod. He grew up in Middle Georgia and graduated from Dudley M. Hughes High School in Macon. He was a US Army Viet Nam veteran. Sgt. Elrod earned the Combat Infantry Badge, four Bronze Stars, and several others. He also did a six-month tour with “the gang” in Bosnia in 2001.
Lamar loved to fish in his younger days and spent many a night at the lake someplace sleeping in the back of his truck along with “Ms. Ann,” Angie, and his nephew, Billy. Lamar was retired from the GA Army National Guard, Pabst Brewing Company, and First Quality Retail Group. Upon his retirement, he and Ms. Ann relocated from Perry to their home on the lake in Georgetown.
Lamar was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bill Elrod; his sister, Elaine Elrod; and his step-son, Tony Hunter.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Lamar are his loving and devoted wife of forty-one years, Ann Elrod of Georgetown; his daughter, Angie Santiago of Perry; his brother, Dave Elrod (Jo Ann) of Mary Ester, FL; his sister, Phyllis Ayers (Larry) of Hartwell; his step-sons, Joel Hunter of Alpharetta and Phil Mitchell of Rochelle; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
