Scarlett was born on November 18, 1959, in Perry to the late Clifford and Margaret Griffin Bragg. A lifetime resident of Perry, she was a 1977 graduate of The Westfield School where she was very competitive and involved in sports and activities. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Georgia. While there, Scarlett earned an undergraduate degree in Ag Science and two Master’s Degrees, one of which was in Computer Science. Through the years, she taught online classes for various colleges including Georgia Military College and the most recent being at Fort Valley State University. During the years after her children’s graduations from high school, when she entered the empty nest syndrome, Scarlett accepted a job with a travel agency that allowed her to meet a multitude of new friends and travel the world. Scarlett enjoyed crafting and turning someone else’s trash into her treasures. She loved a bargain and enjoyed haggling to get the best price that she could, which often resulted in a vocal celebration. Scarlett inherited the “green thumb” trait from her mother, Margaret Bragg, who taught her the best ways to effectively nourish her plants and shrubs – basically everything green. Throughout her life, Scarlett’s love for laughing and making people laugh was evident daily, even during times when she was sick. She was a free spirit and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Scarlett was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Ray Bragg and Larry Bragg.
Survivors include her children, Casey Vandergrift of Asheville, North Carolina, and Tyler Vandergrift of Bakersfield, California; her sisters, Wanda Evans and Cheryl Heller (Jody), both of Perry; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
