Ruth Lillie Thames' Obituary
Mrs. Ruth Lillie Black Thames, born September 12, 1928, a native of Monroe County, AL and a long-time resident of Mobile, AL, exchanged her earthly life for eternity on May 30, 2014. She was the daughter of the later riley and Josephine Rigsby and was married to the late James C. Thames for 59 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Ollie mae Black Kiel. mrs. Thames was a dedicated and devoted member of Stone Street Baptist Church. She worked for 50 years for Mobile Community Actions a pre-school teacher. She was a graduate of The Alabama State College, Mobile Branch and in 2001, she was honored as one of only 5 who received a 50 year diploma from Bishop State Community College. In addition to church and work like, Mrs. Thames contributed to her community as a faithful member of the Alabama Democratic Committee, serving as a treasurer at the local level. Mrs. Thames leaves to cherish her memory, 2 daughters and four sons, Monique (Devoted son-in-law, Larry) Sylvester, Ronnell Thames (Saboor Abdullah), Lorenza Thames, Harves Thames, Michael Thames, and Cassandra Gardner, all of Mobile, Al, 9 grandchildren, Dr. Quentina (Marcus) Pruitt of Mobile, AL,Dominique Sylvester and leTerance Sylvester of Marietta, GA, Nakatani (Lorenzo)Williams, Anthony Thames, Jessica Lauren Thames, Kalyn Goodwin, Shertoria Thames, Tiffany Hill and Stacy Campbell, all of Mobile, AL, 8 great grandchildren, Jalen Wilson, Dominic Gardner, Morgan Pruitt, Naima Sylvester, Terance Sylvester, Mason Pruitt, Loren Williams, Lorenzo Williams, III, 2 adopted sisters, Louise Hayes of MS and Geneva Lambert of Monroeville, AL, 2 adopted brothers, Alonzo Rigsby of Mobile, AL and Geroge Lee Rigsby of MS, 6 sister in laws and 3 brother in laws, a host of nieces, nephews, God children and cherished friends. Funeral services will be held from Stone Street Baptist Church on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 11 am with Pastor Milton Saffold officiating. Visitation will be from 9 am until service time. Interment will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
