Ruth Amerson McSween's Obituary
With a heavy heart we announce the peaceful passing of Ruth A. McSween on April 30th 2016 at the age of 96 in Mobile, Ala. Visitation will be held May 5th 2016 at 1 pm at Serenity Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 3 pm at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, Ala. Ruth was born to the late Mr. Charles B. Amerson and the late Mrs. Hattie Amerson in Macon, Ga. After many years managing high-end dress shops and raising a family in Macon and Mobile, Ruth turned her passion for volunteerism into a second career as the Activities Coordinator at Lynwood Nursing Home. She proudly represented Mobile’s senior citizens for a term in Alabama’s Silver-Haired Legislature. Also, she spent many years serving the community as a member of Pilot International, The Order of Athena, and The German Society of Mobile Sister Cities. Her caring dedication to her family and her devoted service to the community were an inspiration to everyone she encountered. Ruth is preceded in death by her husbands Wilmer L. McCormack and Wilmer R. McSween, daughter Carol Vickers, son Larry McCormack, step-daughter Linda Hooker, brothers Charles Amerson, Earl Amerson, Thomas Amerson, and sister Mary Ryals. Ruth is survived by her loving daughters Margaret Milauckas of Dover, Tenn. and Reah Haddock of Mobile, Ala. She also leaves behind many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made in Ruth’s name to the Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama in honor of her many years as a holiday volunteer bell ringer.
