Ruth Lucile Litton Beddingfield's Obituary
Ruth Lucile Litton Beddingfield, 91, was born June 28, 1924, in the Litton community of Boliver County, MS, and passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015, in Perry, GA. From the 1920’s to the 1940’s, Lucile’s parents, Barkley and Ethel Coakley Litton, reared their two children, Lucile and her older brother, Wayne Thomas, on the harsh but rich delta land of Longshot, MS. Lucile completed high school in Benoit, MS, and after attending “Ole Miss,” she finished secretarial school in Bowling Green, KY. She then went to work in Memphis, TN, during World War II, and after the war, met and married Luther Beddingfield. Lucile saw and lived in several places around the world. From the Tennessee Valley to Tokyo, the beaches of Northwest Florida, and her beloved United Kingdom, she maintained a curiosity about the world as long as she could. Lucile also enjoyed playing bridge, reading mysteries and history, and was an avid enthusiast of the sports of baseball and football. She was probably one of the few middle-aged female subscribers of Sports Illustrated from the 1970’s through the 1990’s. Lucile was predeceased by her parents, brother, and husband of 60 years, Luther LeGrant Beddingfield, originally of Hickory, N. C.
She is survived by her children Lucy Ann (Paul) Hicks of Perry, GA; Jane Ethel (Richard) Allison of Jackson, MS; Paul Lee (Beth) Beddingfield of Houston, TX; grandchildren Shannon Culley of Brooklyn N.Y.; Brad Allison of Dallas, TX; Coakley (Bill) Hanig of Kathleen, GA; Marina (David) Marshall, of Alpharetta, GA; great grandchildren Emily (Dustin) Napier of Atlanta, GA; Jack Wellborn, Sara Jane Hanig, Nicholas Hanig, Georgia Ann Marshall, Ella Cate Marshall, Hollin Gray Marshall, and Nash Marshall. The family wishes to thank the many people who helped in the latter days of Lucile’s life, particularly the staffs of Heritage House in Jackson, MS, and Autumn Terrace in Perry, as well as Lucile’s caretakers Linda Marshall, Denise Davis, Trena Norwood, and Tangy. We also know our mother, Lucile, would send all our love to Jo Ellen, Wayne, David and their families.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation be made to either Autumn Terrace in Perry or a favorite charity. Arrangements are pending through Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry. Condolences may be left at www.watsonhunt.com.
