Ruth Howell's Obituary
Ruth Creel Howell, 89, of Grand Bay, Alabama passed away Thursday October 8, 2015. She was born Jan. 15, 1926 to Hardy Sr. and Della Mae Creel in Irvington, Alabama the fifth of nine children. Ruth graduated from Mobile County High School in 1944. In November 1946 she married John Northway Howell Sr. whom she had met while he was serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. They lived in both Indiana and Michigan where Ruth raised two sons and served with her husband, a Methodist Minister. She actively supported the church throughout a 44 year career of service in twelve different churches. Ruth was an avid gardener, loved to read and was a lifelong member of the Audubon Society. She was preceded in death by her husband John Howell Sr. Ruth leaves behind her son Stephen and wife Christine, son John Jr. and wife Suzanne; three grandchildren, Kristen, Andrew, and Kerry. There are five great grandchildren. A special thanks goes to Diann Creal, Jason Creal and family; also Mobile Infirmary nursing staff and Alabama Hospice. Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Monday, October 12, 2015 from 6 pm until 8 pm. Funeral service will be held in the chapel at Serenity on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 10 am. committal Service will be held at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. If desired, memorial donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Grand Bay, AL.
