Roy Clark Joiner's Obituary
PERRY- Roy Clark Joiner, Jr. 78, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 21, 2018. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary at Perry United Methodist Church with the Funeral Service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Perry United Methodist Church, 1002 Carroll Street, Perry, GA 31069, or Washington Memorial Library – Genealogical Room, 1180 Washington Street, Macon, GA 31201, or Friends of Perry Animal Shelter (FOPAS), 204 Kellwood Drive, Perry, GA 31069. Clark was born in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Roy Clark, Sr. and Ruby Richards Joiner. A 1957 graduate of Vienna High School, he also graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. He was working with NASA at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia as an aeronautical engineer when he met the love of his life, Nancy Oldfield. The couple married and moved to Vienna to work at the family business, where they lived for 8 years. Clark took a job with Nicholson File Company in Mississippi, so they moved there for 5 years. In 1976, Clark opened Joiner Engineering, a Tool and Dye shop, in Perry, Georgia, where the couple settled. Once they returned to Georgia, Clark attended Mercer University where he earned a Master’s of Engineering and obtained his Professional Engineer (PE) License. He began working in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base, from where he retired after 23 years of service. Clark enjoyed researching the genealogy of the Joiner family and spent a great deal of time writing two books on the subject that were accepted into the Washington Memorial Library in Macon, and he was so proud of such an accomplishment. Clark also enjoyed golfing and gardening and the many years that he lived with a golf course in his back yard. He was a member of Perry United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jonathan Paul Joiner. Left to cherish their memories with Clark are his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Nancy Oldfield Joiner of Perry; his brothers, Mike Joiner (Janet) and Pat Joiner (Judy), both of Vienna; his sister, Connie Ellis (Bobby) of Vienna; his sister-in-law, Joyce Joiner of Statesboro; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
