KATHLEEN-Rodger Franklin Ray, 94, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017, after a brief stay in ICU at Perry Hospital. The family will visit with friends and celebrate Rodger's life on Sunday, April 23, 2017, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. in the front yard of his home under his favorite cedar tree, where he loved to sit and enjoy the outdoors. The address is 174 Hwy 247 Spur, Kathleen, GA 31047. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Wounded Warriors, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675, or Henrietta Egleston Hospital for Children, 1405 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30322.Rodger was born in Lumber City to the late William T. and Mattie Lou Powell Ray. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning a Purple Heart when he was wounded crossing the Rhine River in Europe. He was an Aircraft Mechanic with Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base, and he retired after many years of service with them. Through the years, he enjoyed fishing and family, and, as Mr. Rodger would have said, "not necessarily in that order." He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Maxine Dean Ray; 6 brothers; 5 sisters; and a granddaughter, Brittany A. Dicks. Left to cherish the memories of Rodger are his daughters, Phyllis Moore of Buford, Deborah Ray Simon (Wayne) of DeFuniak Springs, FL, Karen Holder of Jacksonville, NC, Teresa Ray of Bonaire, and Brenda Ray of Kathleen; eleven grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews.Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
